| 3 April 2009 With the threat of rain and almost continuous sprinkles, Dave kicked off his season in style. It was Wednesday before he actually fired the car off for the first time at which time it ran for 15 seconds before abruptly dying. After looking all over, he pulled the mag and found broken teeth in the mag gear. They went home, pulled the pan and the oil pump, and found that the pump's idler gear was broken. A borrowed mag from Nick Guernsey and a new pump later, Dave was putting it back together when Terry found a chipped tooth on the cam shaft. The motor got pulled, the injection valve train, and everything off of the front of the engine and car got yanked, and a cam shaft was borrowed from Olson Brothers. It all got put back together and running around 2 PM on Saturday. When they got to 34 Raceway, Dave got Noodles' tach working, but couldn't get the engine to stay fired. After unhooking the tach, Dave went back out for hot laps in the second session. The car ran great for a couple of laps before pulling all the studs out of the rear end and dropping the lower shaft on the track. After pulling back into the pits and fixing the rear end, he was just in time for the heat race, starting scratch on the field. Coming out of two, Dave had a great run to split four cars, but balked at the last second and let two go. One of them hit an orange tiling pylon in three, and Dave's nose wing scooped it up and threw in his lap. He ran the rest of the race with a three foot long by 12 inch diameter plastic tube in his face. It kept hitting the wing and bouncing back into the car. Due to this fun, Dave didn't get any competitive laps until the feature. Starting 12th, the track rubbered down by lap 3. Waiting to pounce on someone's mistake, he battled Hetrick for fifth for about a lap. Hetrick was squeezing him down to the tires pretty hard when he climbed Dave's right rear and launched wide. Unfortunately, Ditsworth got back around him on a crazy slick track. Dave finished sixth on the night. 19 January 2009 Dave "Beef" Anderson will be behind the wheel of a sprint car again. After two years of running modifeds, he is back in his father's beautiful red #53. Bob is enjoying his 53rd year in racing(WOW), and to celebrate this, Beef brought back the old school red and gold leaf #53 that Bob raced for many years! Beef will be trying his hand at 305's this season since they are picking up in SE Iowa, running mainly at 34 Raceway and Knoxville, with some other local 305 shows as well. Along with this, Beef will be taking the wing off again. After much success in 2005 and 2006 running wingless, Beef will be looking forward to some non-wing racing in the region, and will be trying his hand at the inaugural Knoxville Non-Wing Nationals, and again at the Ultimate Challenge. On another note, Beef's brother Bob will be bringing back Noodles car and running it in local 305 shows as well. Noodles, Beef's twin brother passed away a year ago, and Bob has done a beautiful job getting the car it tip top shape for 2009. Look for the #53 and #21n at a track near you! 10 January 2009 For anyone who has been in a cave the last year, Dave and Heidi were married on 6 October 2007. It was a joyous event, only to be overshadowed in the very near future by the birth of Bailey, their first daughter. A very proud father is waiting impatiently for his daughter to arrive. It looks to be a very good year for the Anderson family as Dave will be back in a sprint car as will his brother, Bob, who will be driving Noodles' old car. This will be the senior Bob's 53rd year in racing. Check out the photos page for a glimpse at the retro paint scheme being used by Dave this year! |
